Communication – Turns out it’s not About the Nail

Want to learn to be an effective communicator? This video says it all. I know that when that other person tells you about their situation, you can see the problem. And that you can see (well, believe you can see) the solution. Plain as the nose on their face. I know it is crystal clear to you and not at all clear to them. I know you want to help. But…and this is a very important BUT…in listening it is truly NOT about the nail. It’s not about what you think is wrong. In listening to others, deeply and with great presence, you may just see that people can solve their own problems when you truly hear them.

It is a coaching skill – this kind of listening. And it is a human skill. Be that space where people can be truly heard and honored for what is real for them. If they want your advice, I promise you, they will ask.
