Resources for Lawyers

Capture Your Success

Below are my favorite on-line resources for lawyers, law firms and legal administrators in alphabetical order. Let me know if you have a great resource that you don’t see here.

Radio Show/Podcasts

“Lawpreneur Radio” comes out of the recognition that lawyers need to learn how to run their practices as a business. Therefore, Lawpreneur Radio is a community where members are both lawpreneurs who’ve figured out how to hang their shingle and thrive, and the many vendors that support them, and others who are wondering how or longing to take the first step or, maybe, gigantic leap.
Our hope is that young attorneys fresh out of school, older attorneys looking at self-employment as a version of retirement, exhausted Big Law attorneys with dreams of being their own boss, and any other willing listener, will tune in to be inspired, educated and entertained by the storytelling of the Lawpreneur’s journey.
The website is a wonderful collection of resources, including podcasts of weekly interviews with lawpreneurs and the people who support them.

Blogs For Lawyers

Above the Law takes a behind-the-scenes look at the world of law. The site provides news and insights about the profession’s most colorful personalities and powerful institutions, as well as original commentary on breaking legal developments. Above the Law is published by Breaking Media.
Rants, Raves, Rebuttals, Reflections, Revelations & Ruminations. This blog combines my two favorite topics – leadership and the practice of law. Mr. McKenna is the co-author of First Among Equals, a great book on management and leadership, and advises law firms and lawyers, so he knows what he is talking about!
This company rents out attorney office space in New York to sole practitioners. Impressively, they have their tenants write blogs on what it is like to be a sole practitioner and offering their real world advice. Really good tips. The website also has some free ebooks worth reading. Great reading for solos!
Lawyer Metrics is a research company that focuses on issues and trends affecting the legal industry. Since their founding in 2010, they have developed two areas of expertise. The first is collecting and analyzing data that answer important questions related to organizational strategy and performance. The second is communicating those results to the world’s toughest audience—smart, skeptical lawyers and law students. Check out the link for truly insightful articles.
We have a void in the legal talent space. There are plenty of amazing experts and best practices, but no one place to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and contemplate innovative approaches related to lawyer hiring, development, advancement, diversity, and other talent management topics. That is, until now. More than 20 legal talent experts have come together to fill the void. Our goal — as a collective group — is to help you, as someone who manages legal talent, find the sweet spot that drives and connects lawyer satisfaction, client value, and law firm profits.
The Law Blog covers the legal arena’s hot cases, emerging trends and big personalities. It’s brought to you by lead writer Jacob Gershman with contributions from across The Wall Street Journal’s staff.
