I was reminded by one of my new clients this week that everything you want is outside your comfort zone. How do I know this? Because you would have it if it was comfortable. This is not always easy to hear. Many of us work hard, often unconsciously, to become as comfortable as possible. I certainly do. When I find myself watching more Netflix than usual or drinking more than I feel is healthy or when I start to feel complacent, I know I am leaning into that oh so alluring comfort zone. We may numb (entertain?) ourselves with Facebook and food without ever asking “why?” The desire to turn to comfort is very strong and fairly unconscious. It is the unconsciousness that makes it dangerous. There is nothing inherently wrong with comfort. Yet it tends to take over if not clearly managed.
So this week, my challenge to you is STRETCH. If you are reading my blogs with any regularity, I will bet that you have goals. Given the above, your goals are outside your comfort zone. Own it. Know it. Stretch.
“Those who attempt the absurd achieve the impossible.”
Find the absurdity this week and embrace it. Find the skinny limb and climb out on to it.

In our training next month we will talk about the implications of this comfort zone pull on management of your time. We will discuss the reasons for it and specific strategies to notice the comfort zone, honor its needs, and also get everything done that you want to do. Read on for information on the training itself.

TESTIMONIALS
I attended the workshop on time management and it changed the way that I work. I learned to block my time, schedule time to read emails, and I now have more time to get my work done (or at least it feels like I have more time). I also sent my assistant to the same workshop. When she returned from the workshop, she said “we need to change things around here so that you and I can be more productive.” Now, our office has now instituted a designated time for questions so that they don’t interrupt our work time, we are purposeful about when we schedule certain meetings, and set aside time to get work done.

McLaren Coaching’s Time Management class is the first of several trainings and other coaching I have done with Cami McLaren. The time management was exactly what I needed at that moment to help me make some firm decisions about managing my time more effectively. Cami offered specific strategies (big rocks, eating frogs) to implement. I no longer play the email lotto and approach managing my email in a specific and organized way. I have trained clients and friends not to expect a response to text messages during work hours. I am now sending 3 of my staff to the next Time Management training so we can all utilize the same approach.
